Pretendies Origins:
Pretendies is a 1990s Mexican cartel variety. Pretendies contained seeds because it was cultivated in large fields near Cancun’s tropical coastlines and then smuggled into the United States near Tucson Arizona. Pretendies flooded into Colorado in the mid to late 1990s and became a very popular strain within the Rocky mountain towns of Colorado. Pretendies was also especially beloved and well known by the hippie communities during this time period. Pretendies once popular and widely recognized on the streets slowly faded into obscurity by the early 2000s.
Hypothesis:
Pretendies is a mysterious vintage Mexican Sativa and could very well be a landrace. The only thing we can truly deduct from Pretendies is that it appears to have come from a reputable Mexican or South American genetic line as Pretendies shares very similar characteristics with varieties such as Alcalpulco Gold, Columbian Gold, and Panama Red.

The Name
Pretendies is actually a street name short for Pretindica, Pretendikind, and Pretindow. The name Pretendies is literally mocking exactly what it was directly in competition with, Indica, Kind, and In-door. Pretendies was quality enough that it could easily mimic any top-shelf indoor strains and get away with it hence the name Pretendies.
The High
Pretendies punches a potent narcotic kick that will if overdone end in a long nap time. Pretendies has a super sleepy feeling euphoria which provides a calm head space while retaining a strong psychedelic feeling euphoria throughout the body. The high is very long lasting, satisfying, and comes with a noticeable appetite gain that is relentless.
Pretendies Seeds
Pretendies smells just like fruity mandarin orange cotton candy, and the smoke tastes both sweet and earthy with deep after notes of spice. Being a true connoisseur and grower alike, I knew the potential of this rare tropical Mexican variety and placed many Pretendies seeds into the freezer and dated it 1998.
Definitive Lineage
Pro-Circa lived on the big Island of Hawaii till 2016. For 12 years Pro-Circa personally perfected and preserved the Pretendies strain for future generations to enjoy. While in Hawaii Pretendies was cultivated organically and was never cross-bred with any other variety and remains a pure vintage genetic line.
True Dedication
In 2004 I moved to Hawaii with my now super rare Pretendies seeds. I wanted to keep the Pretendies line in a tropical environment at first to work with the genetics and improve the Pretendies overall quality through selective breeding. By cultivating Pretendies in Hawaii, I knew that both the potency and sweet candy-like profile could be honed in on and perfected.
Why Hawaii?
Hawaii has an amazing environment for cultivating super potent marijuana due to the fact that it is near the equator close to the sun. There is also a hole in the ozone layer directly above the big island that allows rays of sunlight to penetrate the marijuana buds in a very special way. Volcanoes also have the most nutrient enriched soils on earth. I knew that Hawaii’s volcanic soil combined with its unique tropical environments would bring the Pretendies line to the next level.
Fools Rush In
As marijuana legalization first began, I knew that things would change within the marijuana world in a way that I wasn’t willing to be a part of, nor agree with. I knew I had to check-out to Hawaii, grow my Pretendies, and simply wait for all of the craziness of the green rush to blow over. As marijuana legalization unfolded investors rushed into a world that they knew nothing about to take over an industry already run by people such as myself. And the outcome became quickly evident to us organic growers as the quality of most legalized marijuana is full of chemicals that tastes harsh and burns the lungs. This new legalized chemical laced marijuana is labeled top-shelf and sold for ridiculous prices to unsuspecting customers who simply don’t know any better. The industry mostly prays directly on peoples ignorance to marijuana and this is not the marijuana world I wish to be a part of. If investors of the marijuana industry can't produce a safe chemical free product, then they obviously only care about making money selling poison laced weed to people. The intent and integrity behind growing marijuana with chemicals alone speaks some serious volumes. Profit for poison? I personally wouldn’t be able to live with myself let alone sleep at night if I knew all of my profit came directly from dirty, shady, chemical grow operations. Shame on anyone in the industry who isn’t taking the health and well being of their own customers into consideration as marijuana without chemicals is a harmless plant. Why put chemicals into something that doesn’t require chemicals to grow? Fast easy weight equals more money. If greed is what runs your business, good luck with that kind of karma on your head! People are not just a piece of meat and should be respected by having access to clean pure cheap medicine regardless of industry policies and cut throat intentions. Originally before legalization the highest quality marijuana was recognized and named by the purity of the genetics according to the location in which it originated from hence the names Maui Wowwie, Panama Red, and so on and so forth.
